I was born in Australia 81 years ago and have never known who my father was. I had come to believe from family experiences that a particular gentleman appeared to be him. However family history research did not place this person in the right country at the right time. Out of curiosity I took a DNA test for ethnicity interest, but this surprisingly indicated that my birth father was someone other than the presumed gentleman. To solve this problem I sought the services of Finding Families. I shared my DNA results and gave access to my mother’s family tree. It was only a short while before Louise determined that my father was definitely not the man I had always thought, but one of seven brothers from a totally different family, all deceased. One brother was ruled out at the start as it was his descendant that led Louise to this particular family. A second was ruled out during the research, when one of his descendants coincidentally submitted their own DNA test. Louise was able to locate a son of a third brother and sought his agreement to take a sponsored test; he proved to be a first cousin. We were definitely on the right lines and that left four candidates. Louise then went on to find and contact a son of a fourth brother and he also agreed to take a DNA test. His results showed he was my half-brother! I have now met him and have established a warm relationship with him and his wife. My family has suddenly expanded and I am to meet others in the near future. It has been an emotional ride with the outcome so rewarding, thanks to Louise. I am delighted with the competency and discretion with which Louise handled matters all the way through the process and can highly recommend her. She has skills in dealing discreetly with potential family members and will doggedly persist to find the answers.
