I’ve been researching my family tree for many years and have never known who my maternal grandfather was, my mum’s father. Last year my mum and I decided to have our DNA tested to see if that would help find him. We found lots of 2nd and 3rd cousins but couldn’t work out which ones belonged to his side of the family. This summer we reached out to Louise and Finding Families for help, it took her just one week to find out what we’ve been searching years for!
She found a living relation who agreed to take a DNA test for us to determine whether it was his dad, or one of his 3 uncles (all sadly deceased now), who had been mum’s father. We received the results this week and now we know that he is mum’s first cousin. Her father is one of his uncles.
We’ve spoken on the phone to our cousin and we are going to share family photos and information. Hopefully we can also visit each other when current circumstances with COVID allow!
