Madeleine Dines Fund

Madeleine Dines was adopted. She came to Finding Families to learn who her birth father was and after a complex search, we were able to give her those important answers.

She and her family have been delighted by their experience. Madeleine says “I cannot believe the internal feeling of relief of finding out, even in my 80s, who my father was. As a child and into adulthood I would look at men and wonder Is that my father? The overwhelming feeling of relief when being given his name is indescribable.”

In thankful recognition, the Dines family would like other people to benefit from such a positive experience and have generously contributed a fund that will cover the costs of three strangers to find their own families through our service.

This is a limited fund so there needs to be a process to determine which three applicants will be successful.

We have agreed the following criteria:

Priority will be given to those applicants who can demonstrate a financial need. Successful applicants are likely to be in receipt of universal credit or pension credit.
Where the scheme is oversubscribed, a second priority will be assessed, for those with an urgent medical reason to discover their biological family.

We will look at those applicants of advanced age where time may be running out.
And finally, we will only consider those cases that we have assessed as having a good chance of being solved.

All applicants must be at least 18 years old and have tested at both Ancestry and MyHeritage. If the funds are not available for those tests, we might be able to explore funding these too.

Once the funds have been fully used, the scheme will close, unless or until future clients make similar donations to help others.
